We are delighted to announce that, joint with our colleagues in Electrical and Systems Engineering, we will be introducing a new Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering in Artificial Intelligence! For decades AI has been a subfield of Computer Science, developing new techniques for machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, and other fields. However over the past 5 years, AI models have become a key component all across the technological and social landscape. Face recognition, autonomy, health diagnostics, spoken agents, ranked results in social media, GPT — the list goes on and on. Their behavior is governed as much by training data and optimization criteria as by the “core” algorithms — and issues such as trustworthiness/safety, fairness, and privacy are hugely important. Our new AI degree prepares students to tackle all of these issues and more!
