Kristian Lum

We are thrilled to announce the arrival of Kristian Lum to the CIS Department, as a Research Assistant Professor. Kristian holds a PhD in Statistical Science from Duke University, and joins us after spending a number of years at the Human Rights Data Analysis Group as Lead Statistician.

Kristian is widely known for her work on algorithmic fairness and predictive policing. She has consulted for a number of city governments on policy issues and risk assessment, and she is a key organizer of the ACM FAccT (formerly FAT*) conferences.

We’re excited about the incredible new dimensions Kristian brings to our research in algorithmic fairness and transparency — and more broadly to Penn’s Algowatch Initiative and to the Warren Center for Network and Data Science!

Welcome, Kristian!
